The Law on Regulating the Exercise Civil Work

The law on Regulating the Exercise of Civil Work, promulgated by Law No. 149 of 2019, is consistent with the constitutional entitlement of the right to form and join civil associations and institutions, as well as Egypt’s obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The law also came in response to the increasing need to enhance the role of the civil sector in development efforts.

In the wake of the global spread of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and the resulting massive increase in the number of infections and deaths, the Egyptian authorities preemptively took a number of progressive precautionary and preventive measures as part of a comprehensive scheme involving several steps to mitigate the spread of the virus at the national level and to efficiently respond to positive cases.
