A Presidential Decree Appoints 98 Women Judges in State Council
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued Presidential Decree No. 446 of 2021 appointing 98 women judges in State Council, transferred from State Cases Authority and the Administrative Prosecution Authority.
This decision sets a historical precedent, as it is the first time that women judges serve in State Council.
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi issued a directive to the Minister of Justice, Counselor Omar Marwan, on March 9, 2021, in coordination with the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and the President of the State Council, to appoint women in State Council and the Public Prosecution Authority, in activation of the Constitutional entitlement that stipulates equality and non-discrimination.
The decision comes within Egyptian State's efforts to promote human rights in general, empower women and enhance their role in public life in particular.
